Today, Tuesday September 29th, 2026, a new U.S. ban on Canadian imports took effect. It primarily prevents Canadian-made dairy products and alcoholic beverages from being sold across the border. Many view this ban as a retaliatory gesture from the Trump administration, after the U.S. imposed 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion dollars’ worth of Canadian imports. Canada was accused of “discriminating against U.S. goods”, which led to this new import ban.
The new ban, named CSMS # 70050970, can be viewed here:

Alcoholic Products Now Banned
If you live in the United States and you’re fond of Canadian alcoholic beverages, you’re out of luck.
As of today, people in the USA will no longer be able to buy the following:
- Beer: Molson Canadian, Alexander Keith’s, Labatt Blue, Sleeman’s, Moosehead, Steam Whistle, Unibroue
- Cider: Growers, Red Rover, Les Pommes Perdues,
- Wine: Products from Peller Estates, Featherstone Winery, Benjamin Bridge, L’Acadie, Domaine du Grand Pre, etc.
- Sake: Osake, Izumi,
- Vodka: Crystal Head, Mighty Moose, Polar, Iceberg, Grey Goose, and vodka-based Mike’s Hard Lemonade
- Whisky: Forty Creek, Canadian Club, Bearface, Alberta Premium, etc.
- Rum: Smuggler’s Cove, SaskRum, Central City Sparrow Rum, Chic Choc, etc.
- Assorted spirits, coolers, and liqueurs: Ungava gin, Odd Society Crème de Cassis, and so on.
There are a couple of workarounds that a few alcohol manufacturers have been able to put into practice. As a result, Crown Royal will still be available on shelves in the USA because their whisky is bottled in the States. They ship in bulk containers, bypassing the packaged-import restriction. Another workaround involves Canadian brands that are co-owned by U.S. companies and are physically manufactured within the United States.

Further Trade War Escalation is Very Likely

Regarding this new ban, trade policy expert Jacob Jensen told The Associated Press: “This marks yet another escalation in the trade war that may result in further retaliation on the Canadian side.”
Canada and the United States once had an incredibly strong trade agreement. The tariffs, bans, and boycotts we’re seeing now are like retaliatory one-upmanship between the two countries, and they’re likely to intensify. As a result, if you’re in the United States and there are products from the Great White North that you’ve come to love, you may want to stock up while supplies still last.
You might not get another chance to get your hands on them again.
Or at the very least, you’ll have to head north to enjoy beer, whisky, and cheese with your Canadian neighbors.
